Acid

 Acid:

1) They are sour in taste

2) They release H+ or H3O+ ions in water

3) They turn blue litmus to red litmus.

4) They do not change the color of Phenolphthlein.

5) Shows red color in methyl orange.

INDICATORS: There are those  chemical species which show a change in its properties when an acid or base is added to it.

There are two types of indicators:

1) Colour changing: They show change in their color, when acid or base it added.

E.g litmus, pH paper, Phenolphthlein, Methyl orange etc.

2) Olfactory: They show change in their smell, when acid or base it added to it.

E.g. Onion and vanilla etc.

Definition of acid:

1) Arhenius acid: Substance which lose H+ ions when it is dissolved in water.

E.g. HCl, HBr, HI, H2SO4,  HCOOH,  etc.

2) Bronsted acid: They are proton donor species.

E g  HCl, HBr, HI , HNO3 etc.

Strong acid: They dissociate completely when dissolved in water.

E.g  HCl, HBr, HNO3, H2SO4 etc.

Weak acid: They dissociate partially when dissolved in water.

E.g. CH3COOH, HCOOH, H2CO3, C6H5COOH etc.

Concentrated acid: This the type of acid solution in which quantity of acid is more.

Dilute solution: This the type of acid solution in which the quantity of acid is less

Both these terms are comparative/ relative terms.  They have no significance separately.
